5 Unique Ways To Brew Coffee If You Run Out Of Paper Filter

Using a filter is simply a  convenient way to make coffee that doesn’t leave grounds in your cup. Coffee filters are used in coffee machines or makers in order to block the unsaturated coffee grounds falling in to your coffee cup. Most common filters used are papers filters which are cheap and easy to use. You don’t really need a paper coffee filter to make coffee

What happens when you are run out of paper filter? Don’t let it ruin your day. Here are 5 unique ways to brew coffee if you run out of paper filter

 

Traditional method:

This is one of the traditional methods of brewing a coffee without using any filters, makers or machines. Follow the steps to brew coffee in traditional method

  • Turn on the heat and fill the pan with water. Use more water than you usually use for coffee such that some of the water is left behind.
  • During boiling, add your crushed coffee grounds. Amount of coffee depends on the amount of water you use. Usually two spoons of coffee for six ounces of water.
  • Turn of the heat quickly, cover the pan and wait till the coffee grounds settle at the bottom. It takes four to five mins
  • By using a ladle take out the coffee from the top in to the cup

 

Coffee bag method;

As you are well aware of tea bags. It’s the quickest way to have your tea ready when you are in a rush.There are coffee bags available in the market which helps you to have coffee when you ran out of filter. In this way you don’t have to miss your coffee. All you require is coffee bag and heat water. To make coffee using coffee bag follow the steps below.

  • Heat the water using kettle or pan. Boil the water to a high degree and turn of the heat and let it rest for 30 seconds
  • Place your coffee bag in your cup and slowly pour the boiled water in to the cup. Make sure the coffee bag is completely saturated with boiled water
  • Steep the bag in the water for your desired brew. If you need a strong brew steep it for 5-6 minutes and is you need a light coffee steep it for 2-3 minutes
  • Once the steeping is done. Remove the coffee bag and enjoy your coffee.

 

Cloth napkin/ Hand kerchief method:

If you don’t have paper filters. The other way of making coffee is by using a cloth napkin or hand kerchief. It’s a bit complicated method but when done perfectly it is best home-made coffee. All you need is coffee grounds, hot water, hand kerchief as filter, large mug and a rubber band or clip. To make coffee in this method following steps are to be followed.

  • First is to prepare your filter, for this place the hand kerchief on top of the mug. This has to fully fit on the top of the mug.
  • Clamp the kerchief securely to the sides of the cup. Make sure the tightness to the rubber band or clips to ensure the cloth stays while pouring.
  • Place the coffee grounds on the cloth and spread the grounds evenly on the cloth
  • Boil and cup of water and once it reaches the boiling point. Take it out and let it out for 30 seconds
  • Pour the boiled water in to cloth slowly and gradually so that it absorbs the flavour and oils of the coffee grounds
  • Carefully remove the cloth napkin from the mug to prevent the grounds from dropping into the mug.

 

Re-usable coffee filter/ metal filter:

Filters are very much important to make your coffee easy. Paper filters are usually for one use. They are cheap and easy to use. If you run out of paper filters then you mostly probably won’t make coffee. To this problem, there are metal filters which can be re-usable many times and are available in your desired size. The following is the steps to make coffee with metal filter.

  • Boil your water and once It reaches the boiling point. Let it cool for 30 seconds
  • Take out your metal filter and keep it on top of the mug or cup
  • Place your coffee grounds in to metal filter
  • Slowly pour the hot water. Pour it gradually for about 4 minutes so that it absorbs the flavor.
  • Take out the metal filter, wash it and can be used again for you next coffee.
  • You can use metal filters in coffee makers and machines also 

 

These metal filters are simply not fine enough. They let important elements thru filter such as oil and micro fines. Metal filters are messy when it comes to cleaning. You need to take it out from the brewer and dump the grounds into the waste bin. You want to get as many grounds as possible out of the filter before rinsing.

 

The French method:

This is other unique way of brewing a coffee without using a paper filter. it is usually a cowboy method. For this you need hot water, freshly grounded coffee, 2 mugs. The steps to be followed for coffee to be made in French method.

  • Boil you water and let it cool for 30 seconds once it reaches the boiling point
  • Pour your coffee grounds in to one cup, pour a tiny bit of hot water just to make sure you wet the coffee grounds.
  • Wait for 30 seconds and slowly pour the boiled water in to cup
  • Wait for 4-5 minutes
  • Once the time is up, slowly and carefully transfer your coffee in to other cup. Make sure the wet grounds in the first cup doesn’t get in to the second cup
  • Enjoy your coffee.
