By Nandini Gargula May 06, 2020 0 comments

Tea, coffee and other beverages are essential for many people. Mornings are incomplete without a cup of coffee or tea. This is where the kettles are an essential part of the kitchen ware. If we need warm water once a day or throughout the day. That makes the kettle more useful.

When choosing a right kettle for you, there are many kettles to buy. There is a stovetop kettle which has a look which can easily blend into your kitchen. There is an electric kettle which is fast, easy and convenient to use.

Different type of kettles:

We have many ways to boil water. We can do it in a pan on the stove or a cup in the microwave oven. However, the easiest to boil is by kettle. There are stove top kettles and electric kettles.

Stove kettles

These are usual types just as basic kitchen ware. Stove kettle is a traditional way of boiling water for tea or for any other reasons. You keep them over your stoves and boil your water.

features:

  1. Works on gas, electric and induction stove
  2. Affordable
  3. Different shapes and sizes
  4. Lifetime warranty

Electric kettles

These kettles come with their own base as a heating source.  The kettle has to be kept on the base and an electric power source has to be connected to boil water. They boil water in less time than a stove kettle and cost less or the same.

Features:

  1. Portable and convenient when found a electric source
  2. easy to use and less time to boil water
  3. temperature can be controlled
  4. can shut off automatically
  5. can be cleaned easily
  6. travel friendly

Stove kettle vs Electric kettle

  • Convenience and outside use: You can use an electric kettle anywhere, at home or at work. All it needs is a power source where you can plug it. Stove kettle on the other hand, requires a stove or a fire down the kettle. When using outside like in a field trip or vacation, stove kettles are more suitable. When in remote area stove kettle are more helpful for making coffee.
  • Time and cost: Electric kettles are so much faster to heat water than stove kettle. It takes only a few minutes to bring a few ounces of water to completely boil. The same can be taken for a stove kettle around 10 minutes. Cost of both the kettles are the same. In some cases, stove kettles are less than the electric kettles.
  • Taste: Boiling water obviously has no taste but many tea lovers prefer stove kettles. This preference is because they love to boil their tea leaves to perfection and some prefer to boil water more than required to enjoy. You can boil water as long as you like. That is not possible in an electric kettle.
  • Auto shut down: People tend to forget many times. While using a kettle it is obvious to forget to turn off the source when the water is boiled. If you are that person, an electric kettle is best suited for you. All electric kettles automatically shut-off after the water has come to a boiling point, whereas some stove kettles will only give out a whistle, depending on the model and the brand.

Why USA consumers buy less electric kettle than other countries

Kettle is popular around the world. Most people buy a kettle to boil water to make tea or coffee. Electric and stove top kettles are mostly used all around the world. In the USA, the use of kettles are less. Stove top kettles are used in some parts of the country. Electric kettles are far less used in the USA. Some of the reasons on why kettles are used less in USA

One main reason is Americans are more into coffee than tea. English and Australian people prefer tea over coffee. Most people in America prefer instant coffee or buy coffee drinks in a coffee bar or store. According to statista 70 percent of people aged above 65 prefer coffee than tea and more than 50 percent younger people prefer coffee than tea. This is one of the main reasons why the USA uses less kettle than the rest of the world.

Another reason would be power outlet sources in the USA. In general, electric kettle is quicker to heat water than stove top kettles. However, that is contrary in the USA. Stove kettle is quicker than an electric. This is completely because of the power outlet source in the USA.

Voltages of the main electricity vary from country to country. Most of the world has around 200 to 240 volts but in the USA its between 100-127 volts. In Australia voltage is around 230V so the maximum possible power to one appliance is 2990 watts. In the USA, the voltage is around 120V so the maximum possible power to one appliance is reduced to 1800 watts. For this reasons, big machines use separate high voltage circuits.

An average kettle in Australia runs about 2800W and in the US is about 1500W. when 100% efficient Australian kettle takes 127 seconds to boil whereas a US kettle takes around 237 seconds to boil water to 100 Degree. That is too long, which is more than stove top kettle.

This is the main reason why people in the US prefer stove kettle than electric kettle.
