Every coffee person has to find their own personal favourite. It takes at least a dozen and more tries to get a perfect bean, trying different sources, blends and coffee makers. A good cup of coffee in the morning can set up the whole day. It's easier than you think–simple things like storing your beans correctly and using the best filters will prevent unwanted bitterness or off-flavours from your cup. Below are some of the ways to make a perfect coffee.
Pour-over coffee maker
Arguably one of the best methods for a delicious and aromatic cup of coffee. Pour-over coffee brewers come in many shapes and sizes. The general size is a cone-shaped device that holds a filter and funnels the water down through the coffee bed towards the series of holes at the bottom
.
To make a coffee in pour-over maker
- Grind the beans to uniform small pieces and make sure put the filter in the brewer and rinse it with hot water
- Add the grounds to the filter making sure it reaches the surface level. The boiling water is poured slowly and steadily just enough water to saturate the coffee grounds. This is called the "bloom" pour, which allows the coffee to de-gas.
- You should be pouring so slowly that it takes a full four minutes for the water to drip down into the base of the flask. Remove the filter. Now the coffee is ready to serve.
French press
A French press is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to make great coffee. After the drip coffee, it is one of the easiest ways to make your coffee. Unlike pour over it is easy to serve coffee to several people at once.
The following procedure needed to be done to have a coffee in your French press
- Bring the water into a kettle to boil
- Place the uniform ground beans into the French press
- Add the boiled water (temperature 195-205F) into the French press and stir it vigorously into the grounds. Brew it about for 4 minutes and then plunge the press slowly which separates the grounds from the coffee
- Your coffee is ready, don’t leave the coffee in the French press as it continues to stir to the grounds instead pour it to the carafe and have the coffee later
Moka pot/ Espresso maker
Moka pot and Espresso maker both are different devices to make coffee but have the same procedure to have a delicious coffee. The only difference is the level of pressure used in Espresso is high when compared to the Moka pot.
Below is the procedure to make a coffee.
- Fill the lower chamber of Moka pot/espresso maker with water just below the valve. Overfilling will waterlog the coffee and affect the flavour, so make sure you don’t use too much.
- Grind the coffee beans to a fine consistency and those uniformly crushed beans to the filter. Once the coffee is loaded into the filter, place it into the bottom chamber. or you could load the filter first and then add the ground coffee.
- Securer the top and bottom chambers together. failure to secure the two chambers fully could result in a failed brew and potential clean up mess.
- Heat the Mokapot/ espresso maker. Place the stovetop maker onto the stove and turn on the heat. A low flame is enough to do the job.
- When the coffee has completed the brew cycle and is in the top chamber, turn off the heat and serve the coffee.

On a fine morning, nothing beats the taste of the drip coffee. This is one of the simplest methods to have a delicious coffee. You could make up to 12 cups of coffee.
